History of Marble Mosaic

The value of an architectural work depends on the materials that have been used to make it. Materials used to make a building determine the aesthetic value of the building. Marble mosaic has been used by people for decades to increase the aesthetic value of their house. These days, it is also used in commercial complexes and offices. Mosaic Art has gained a huge popularity among people. It is made by mixing pieces of glass, stones and other materials. With mosaic art one can form design or some beautiful picture of his choice.

Historical records say that mosaic is an ancient form of art which started almost four thousand years earlier. It is said that people of Mesopotamia had formed mosaics with baked clay during the fourth and third century B.C. The baked clay that they used for mosaic works had different paintings at their corners. Mosaic art also were popular among the Greeks. The Greeks were excellent artists and decorated their floors with mosaics made up of pebble. Macedonians have also used mosaics for the embellishment of their structures.

Different ingredients were used by different civilizations for mosaic arts. Not only the ingredients to make mosaic varied from one civilization to other but also there was some variation in the images made by different civilizations. Some of the examples of mosaic arts at different time period can be sited for better understanding. Christian mosaics which were made during fourth century B.C. and sixth century B.C. represented some scenes of hunting animals and birds. The Islamic mosaics of 7th century differed a lot from them. They mostly resembled some scenes or some floral images. With time, many changes have been found in designs formed by using mosaic arts. But the technique for creating mosaic arts has remained the same.

Phoenician Arts has given new dimension to mosaic art. They have formed some excellent designs of mosaic arts using semi precious stones and natural marble. Traditional elite designs of mosaics created by Byzantinians, Romans and Greeks have also been reproduced and revived by them. A homeowner can install mosaic arts in the hallways of a work place or house. It can be installed in living rooms, dining areas as well as fire place of the house. To enhance the outdoor beauty mosaic has been used in the entrance of a building. People have used it in garden areas, pools as well as in the tabletops. Mosaic art existed from ancient period but has not lost its appeal.
